Postcards from New Zealand (Ongoing)
To stay connected with loved ones back home, I started my “Postcards from New Zealand” painting series. All postcards are painted en plein air with gouache.
Character Design: Madame Widow
The graphic, impervious face of a killer. Madame Widow has had a few husbands… None lasted long. Bug-eyed sunglasses obscure any emotion and relate to the glossy black eyes of real spiders. Her hourglass necklace is an homage to her favorite arachnid, and perhaps a warning to her suitors that their days are numbered. Clothed in black, Madame is likely “mourning” her latest kill. Designed using Adobe Illustrator.
Character Design: Louise (In-Progress)
Meet Louise. She’s a mechanical genius and your coolest rock and roll aunt. Her enormous stature means she’s a bit of a klutz, but this doesn’t stop her from inventing new gadgets. A fan of meditation, animals, and all things caffeinated, Louise is friendly and frantic. But don’t let her nice exterior fool you: Louise has a temper as big as she is. Designed using Adobe Photoshop.
In-progress components: adding details to the colored figure and adjusting the perspective of the posed drawings.

Character Design: Swamp Sitter (In-Progress)
The swamp sitter is all about camouflage. Spending the bulk of its life floating on the swamp’s surface, its buoyant outer hood helps it blend in and stay afloat. Its underbelly coloring is light so that the creature blends in with the sky above. Pectoral and anal fins allow the sitter to slowly swim. Possessing no eyes, the sitter senses the movement of prey who are unaware that it has floated overhead. Designed using Adobe Photoshop.
In-progress components: adding details and dimension to the colored figure and adjusting the posed drawings.
