BASALT STONE SAMPLE
Inspired by the dark basalt rock found on the Oregon coast, I made this 1:8 scale model of coastal ground covering after a rainy weekend trip to the beach. To construct the rocks, I covered piles of crumpled paper with damp plaster cloth. Once dry, I painted the composition and glued on cut model grass. I then used Mod Podge to adhere torn crepe paper to the rocks — creating the appearance of lichen. The last step was layering on different shades of powdered model moss and pebbles I had painted.
